  15. <p>     REPRIMANDED. Alfonse D'Amato, 54, Republican U.S. Senator from
  16. New York; for acting "in an improper and inappropriate manner"
  17. by allowing his brother to use his office on behalf of the Long
  18. Island, N.Y., division of Unisys, a defense contractor; by the
  19. Senate Select Committee on Ethics; in Washington. After a
  20. 19-month inquiry, the committee announced that it had found no
  21. evidence that D'Amato acted illegally on behalf of Unisys in
  22. exchange for campaign contributions. It did not recommend any
  23. punishment by the full Senate. But, in issuing the harsh
  24. condemnation of a colleague, the committee faulted D'Amato for
  25. "failing to establish appropriate standards for the operation
  26. of his office."
